SAUDIA has revealed its plans to increase its fleet by purchasing up to 49 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, according to an announcement made on Tuesday.
The deal will comprise of 39 787s, with an option to buy an additional 10 aircraft as part of the airline’s global expansion strategy. The agreement covers both the 787-9 and 787-10 models.
The move is in line with Saudi Arabia’s overall plan to develop the country into a global aviation hub. Additionally, Riyadh Air, a new airline, has also disclosed that it will be acquiring up to 72 Dreamliners from Boeing.
The Saudi Arabian airlines have declared their intention to acquire up to 121 787 Dreamliners, making it the fifth-largest commercial order by value in Boeing’s history.
This decision will aid the country’s objective of serving 330 million passengers and attracting 100 million visitors per year by 2030. Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of SAUDIA Group, expressed that the airline is committed to expanding in all areas, including adding new destinations and increasing its fleet size.
SAUDIA’s agreement with Boeing is a testament to its commitment to bringing the world to the Kingdom, according to Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of SAUDIA Group. The airline currently operates over 50 Boeing aircraft, including the 777-300ER and 787-9 and 787-10 Dreamliners, on its long-haul network.
The addition of the 787s will complement its current fleet and improve its capacity and efficiency. Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, expressed his gratitude for SAUDIA’s trust in Boeing products and pledged to support the Saudi Arabian goal of expanding sustainable air travel.
