Emirates inaugurated the Dubai Airshow 2023 by placing a substantial order for 95 additional wide-body aircraft, elevating its total order book to 295 aircraft.
As the world’s largest operator of wide-body passenger aircraft, Emirates committed to additional Boeing 777-9s, 777-8s, and 787s, valued at $52B. This investment aims to support growth plans, maintain an efficient fleet, and enhance the flying experience for passengers.
Key Aircraft Orders Formalized in Presence of Dignitaries
In the presence of dignitaries such as HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the orders were formalised by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates, alongside Stan Deal, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and Larry Culp, Chairman and CEO for GE and CEO of GE Aerospace.
HH Sheikh Ahmed expressed that these additional aircraft align with Emirates’ strategy of operating modern and efficient wide-body aircraft, facilitating long-distance travel comfortably. The orders will enhance connectivity and support Dubai’s economic agenda of adding 400 cities to the foreign trade map over the next decade.
Emirates’ Boeing order includes firm orders for 55 additional 777-9s and 35 777-8s, bringing the airline’s total 777-X order book to 205 units. The airline also confirmed an order for 202 GE9X engines to power the additional 777X aircraft, making its total GE9X engine order 460 units.
The first 777-9 from the previous order is expected in 2025, with additional orders scheduled until 2035. Emirates is poised to become a launch customer for the 777-8 passenger variant, with deliveries expected to commence in 2030.
HH Sheikh Ahmed noted, “Emirates is the biggest operator of Boeing 777 aircraft,” expressing satisfaction in extending their relationship with Boeing. Stan Deal, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, commended the order as a significant vote of confidence in the 777X family’s efficiency and versatility.”
Emirates also increased its commitment to Boeing 787 Dreamliners, updating the previous order of 30 Boeing 787-9s to a total of 35 Dreamliners, comprising 15 Boeing 787-10s and 20 Boeing 787-8s.
