Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance joint investment in artificial intelligence (AI) and promote technological collaboration between the UAE and Malaysia. The agreement, signed in a ceremony attended by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi, also supports Malaysia’s Madani Artificial Intelligence (MMAI) initiative.
The partnership aims to leverage AI and advanced data analytics to improve national security, enhance community safety, and drive operational efficiencies in both countries. The MoU outlines cooperation in areas such as the development of AI-driven national security systems, high-performance computing data centres, and improved customs tax collection processes.
The agreement was signed by Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Malaysia’s Minister of Home Affairs. Alsuwaidi emphasised the importance of the collaboration for fostering technological innovation and enhancing operational efficiency for sustainable development.
Prime Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail highlighted Malaysia’s ambition to lead globally in AI, with the partnership aimed at addressing challenges like public safety while enhancing operational efficiencies.
This MoU follows the confirmation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two nations in October 2024, further strengthening their economic ties. Non-oil trade between the UAE and Malaysia reached $2.5bn in H1 2024, a 7% increase from the previous year.
In another development, Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim met with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in areas like renewable energy, technology, and sustainable development.
