His Highness, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, oversaw the immediate delivery of humanitarian supplies to the friendly Syrian people, valued at AED50M, to help those devastated by the most destructive earthquake the nation has seen in decades.
His Highness stated that the United Arab Emirates is prepared to help the Syrian brothers deal with the terrible tragedy that has befallen them, indicating that the UAE will stand by the Syrian people and will continue to extend a helping hand to them until they are able to overcome this adversity as an expression of its noble human values. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives will provide help to the most vulnerable populations in the neighbouring country of Syria, many of whose regions were hit by the aftershocks of the earthquake that killed scores of Syrians early on 6th February, 2023, according to the Zawya. Since its founding, the UAE has made it a priority to integrate humanitarian relief and development aid into its foreign policy. As a result, the UAE has consistently ranked at the top of lists of countries that provide the most official development assistance (ODA) relative to their gross domestic product.
The Ninth Principle of “The Principles of the 50” states that “The UAE’s foreign humanitarian aid is an essential part of its vision and moral duty towards less fortunate peoples and that the foreign humanitarian aid is not tied to religion, race, colour, or culture.” The urgent humanitarian assistance to the benevolent Syrian people embodies this principle.
