Dubai Municipality has issued a stern warning to vehicle owners neglecting their vehicles at nine registration and testing centres across the Emirate. Authorities have announced that neglected vehicles will be confiscated if not cleared out promptly.
The campaign, targeting facilities including Warsan, Qusais, Shamil Muhaisnah, and others, has already seen proactive measures with 68 clearance alerts, 38 posters, and 30 text messages sent to owners. These vehicles, left unattended for extended periods in parking lots and courtyards, pose logistical challenges and must be addressed swiftly.
Authorities have reported a high response rate of 95%, indicating effective management of the situation through timely warnings and notices.
According to Saeed Safar, Director of the Waste Operations Department at Dubai Municipality, a dedicated monitoring team has been actively tracking neglected vehicles and equipment since last month. This effort covers a wide range of vehicles, from light cars to heavy vehicles, locomotives, trailers, and boats. Collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority and a specialized company facilitates the removal and impoundment of these vehicles.
Upon identification of a neglected vehicle, authorities issue warnings ranging from three to 15 days, depending on the condition and location. Dubai-registered vehicles receive SMS notifications, prompting owners to take action. Vehicles not retrieved within the specified period face impoundment at the Al Awir impoundment yard, with options for owners to reclaim them before auction.
The municipality emphasized the importance for residents to ensure their vehicles have suitable arrangements, particularly when traveling, to avoid complications.
