Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways has announced a significant recruitment initiative aimed at hiring hundreds of pilots over the next 18 months. This effort is part of the airline’s ambitious plan to expand its route network and double its fleet by 2030. The recruitment drive will commence with a roadshow across eight European countries, including Cyprus, Bulgaria, Albania, Romania, Hungary, Poland, and Lithuania, starting on June 29 in Larnaca, Cyprus, and continuing in major European capitals until July 13.
Etihad Airways is seeking pilots of all ranks to operate various aircraft within its fleet, including the Airbus A320, A350, and A380, as well as the Boeing 777, 787, and 777 freighter. This move aligns with the airline’s strategy to triple its passenger numbers to 33 million and expand its fleet to 150 planes by the end of the decade. Additionally, the airline is preparing for a potential initial public offering (IPO), which would be a first for a major Gulf airline.
The benefits offered to new pilots are extensive, including a tax-free salary, medical and life insurance, housing and schooling allowances, relocation support, and a hotel stay for the first month. Pilots will also receive additional allowances for flying hours and layovers, as well as discounted tickets for themselves, their families, and friends. These benefits are part of Etihad’s effort to attract top talent by offering significant career progression opportunities.
In March, Etihad CEO Antonoaldo Neves revealed the airline’s plan to hire 1,500 to 2,000 pilots, cabin crew, mechanics, and engineers in 2024 to support its growth. Neves emphasized the airline’s ongoing recruitment efforts, stating, “In the second half of the year, we’re going to be hiring to prepare for 2025.”
Etihad’s expansion plans include launching new flights to destinations such as Bali, Jaipur, and Al Qassim, along with seasonal routes to popular locations like Mykonos, Santorini, Nice, Malaga, and Antalya. Pilots interested in joining Etihad are encouraged to attend the roadshow events or register for more information on the airline’s careers page.
Etihad Airways’ extensive recruitment drive is a strategic move to support its ambitious expansion goals. By offering attractive benefits and career growth opportunities, the airline aims to position itself as a desirable employer for pilots worldwide.
