MGX, Bpifrance and Mistral have announced plans to expand Campus AI in France by establishing a second site, increasing the initiative’s computing capacity to as much as 3GW nationwide. The new facility will complement the flagship campus in Fouju and support the development of a broader European AI infrastructure network.
The Campus AI consortium brings together France’s public investment bank Bpifrance, AI company Mistral, technology investment firm MGX and computing leader NVIDIA. The expansion is expected to strengthen France’s position as a major hub for sustainable AI infrastructure while meeting growing demand for advanced computing resources across Europe.
The enlarged network will provide Mistral with access to significant computing power across multiple locations, supporting the company’s continued growth and innovation ambitions.
The announcement was made during the Choose France Summit, attended by French President Emmanuel Macron and Khaldoon Al Mubarak, underlining the strategic importance of the project for both France and the UAE.
The initiative is projected to create thousands of jobs and will work closely with companies across key sectors, including energy, semiconductors, batteries, electronics and critical technologies. By integrating local industries into the project, Campus AI aims to boost technological sovereignty and strengthen Europe’s AI ecosystem.
The expansion builds on the progress achieved at the Fouju campus, where collaboration with local authorities and communities has helped attract investment and employment opportunities. The site also incorporates environmentally conscious technologies, including water-free cooling systems and energy-efficient infrastructure powered by low-carbon electricity.
Development of the second campus will follow the same approach, focusing on sustainability, local engagement and infrastructure designed to support Europe’s leading AI companies while reinforcing France’s role in the global AI landscape.
Thibaud Desfossés, President of Campus AI, said France has the expertise, talent and energy resources required to become a leader in European AI. He noted that expanding capacity to 3GW would help French suppliers and AI companies scale more effectively while generating long-term economic benefits and strengthening cooperation between France and the UAE.
