Dynamic pricing adapts for Ramadan
Dubai’s electronic toll gate system, Salik, has announced significant updates to its pricing structure, including adjustments specifically tailored for Ramadan. Starting January 31, Salik will implement dynamic pricing aimed at reducing congestion on the city’s busiest roads, while introducing further modifications during the holy month to accommodate those observing fasting rituals.
New Pricing from January 31
The new dynamic pricing will replace the current flat rate of AED 4 per entry. Under the updated system:
- Peak hours (6am–10am and 4pm–8pm): AED 6
- Non-peak hours (10am–4pm and 8pm–1am): AED 4
- Late-night hours (1am–6am): Free
This structure ensures a more balanced toll fee system, spreading traffic evenly throughout the day.
Ramadan-Specific Adjustments
During Ramadan, beginning March 30 or 31, Salik will introduce additional changes to support those fasting:
- Early morning hours (2am–7am): No toll fees, allowing drivers to attend Suhoor and Fajr prayers without charges.
- Morning rush hour (7am–9am): Fees reduced to AED 4 instead of AED 6.
- Peak daytime hours (9am–5pm): AED 6, with Sundays reduced to AED 4.
Evening hours will see extended lower fees, with AED 4 charged from 5pm to 2am, ensuring affordability for Iftar commutes.
Enhanced Flexibility for Residents
These changes provide a consistent eight-hour peak pricing window during the day, in contrast to the two four-hour blocks applicable for the rest of the year. Additionally, the extended lower-fee evening period during Ramadan ensures a smoother flow of traffic and reduced financial burden for drivers traveling for Iftar.
Salik’s updated pricing structure introduces dynamic tolling to better manage traffic while accommodating the unique needs of Ramadan. These changes reflect Dubai’s commitment to flexibility and convenience for its residents.
