Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Keolis MHI and Future Maintenance Technologies (FMT), has launched the Automated Rail Infrastructure Inspection System (ARIIS) — a cutting-edge AI-powered robotic platform set to revolutionise Dubai Metro’s maintenance operations.
The deployment of ARIIS marks a major step forward in integrating smart and sustainable technologies into the emirate’s transport network, aligning with Dubai’s vision to be a global AI and innovation hub.
AI-Driven Inspections Without Disruption
ARIIS operates autonomously and conducts real-time inspections of tracks and critical infrastructure using advanced LiDAR sensors, lasers, and 3D cameras. These inspections take place without interrupting daily metro services, ensuring smoother operations and consistent service quality.
Abdul Mohsin Kalbat, CEO of RTA’s Rail Agency, noted,
“Dubai is proud to lead in smart solutions that enhance the reliability and efficiency of Dubai Metro. ARIIS represents a significant leap in our commitment to maintaining one of the world’s most advanced and safest public transport networks.”
David Franks, Managing Director of Keolis MHI, added,
“ARIIS is a milestone achievement that transforms our maintenance operations by enhancing safety, efficiency, and data-driven decisions. It’s a game-changer for rail infrastructure management.”
Boosting Safety, Efficiency, and Sustainability
The system brings measurable benefits across multiple areas:
- Enhanced Safety: Reduces manual inspections by up to 70% and improves infrastructure condition assessments by 40%.
- Operational Efficiency: Cuts inspection time by 75%, enabling more frequent assessments without service disruptions. For instance, ARIIS reduces labour time from 2,400 to just 700 man-hours.
- Predictive Maintenance: Advanced diagnostics support proactive upkeep, extending infrastructure lifespan and reducing costs by up to 25%.
- Smart Resource Management: Real-time analytics improve decision-making, increasing efficiency by 40% and cutting down on unnecessary maintenance.
Loic Ayoul, CEO of FMT, stated,
“We’re proud to bring ARIIS to Dubai alongside RTA and Keolis MHI. This robotic solution sets a new benchmark for smart rail maintenance, improving infrastructure performance, sustainability, and resilience.”
A Smart Step Toward Dubai’s Future
ARIIS is not just a robotic tool—it’s a strategic enabler of Dubai’s Smart City ambitions. By adopting AI and robotics, Dubai Metro continues to set global standards in urban mobility, sustainability, and innovation, offering residents and visitors a safer and more intelligent transit experience.
