US stock indices closed at fresh record highs on Monday, even as oil prices extended gains and investors monitored upcoming central bank policy decisions.
The S&P 500 edged up 0.1% to finish at a record 7,173.9. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq added 0.2% to close at a new high of 24,887. However, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 63 points.
Oil prices continued to rise, climbing around 2%. Additionally, market attention remained focused on interest rate outlooks ahead of policy decisions from major central banks, including the Federal Reserve.
Sector performance was mixed. Moreover, communication services, financials and technology led gains, while consumer staples underperformed.
