The Sustainable City in Dubai has launched a trial programme for autonomous delivery robots in partnership with Dubai Future Labs and Lyve Global.
Three robots, created by Dubai Future Labs, will deliver goods from restaurants and shops in the plaza area to local residents.
Testing delivery robots in Sustainable City
“These cutting-edge robots are designed to ensure rapid delivery of items within an impressive 30-minute timeframe, while being fully capable of safely and efficiently navigating their surroundings. They can identify charging stations, removing the need for human involvement,” stated Khalifa Al Qama, Director of Dubai Future Labs at Dubai Future Foundation.
“The deployment of these delivery robots is in line with the goals of the ‘Dubai Robotics and Automation Program,’ launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dubai Future Foundation in September 2022,” he added.
The robots are equipped with a Fleet Management System for real-time tracking, a back-end order fulfilment system by Lyve Global, and a secure delivery compartment accessible only to the customer.
“We have successfully integrated sustainable communities with advanced technologies. The Sustainable City in Dubai tests the feasibility of various ideas and integrated solutions. It is an ideal setting for piloting autonomous delivery robots and their future deployment. The car-free residential clusters provide a safe and conducive environment for testing and operating such advanced technologies, ensuring the safety of residents and optimizing the performance and efficiency of the delivery robots,” commented Fadi Alfaris, GM of NZE Solutions at SEE Holding.
The project supports Dubai’s goal to make 25 percent of trips autonomous by 2030 and aligns with the city’s vision to become the world’s smartest city.
“We are excited to collaborate with Dubai Future Labs in deploying state-of-the-art delivery robots in the Sustainable City, marking a significant advancement in our mission to transform logistics. This initiative highlights our dedication to innovation and sustainability. Together, we are paving the way for a smarter, more connected future in logistics,” said Hassan Hallas, Chief Executive Officer at Lyve Global.
The trial commenced this month in the car-free residential clusters of The Sustainable City, which offer a controlled environment for testing the technology.
