The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) pledged AED 36.7M (USD 10M) to support sustainable programmes by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, benefiting forcibly displaced communities. This brings MBRGI’s total contributions to AED 163.6M since 2021.
Formalised during the 2025 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the cooperation agreement highlights MBRGI’s commitment to empowering displaced populations through sustainable initiatives. Saeed Al Eter, Assistant Secretary General of MBRGI, and Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, signed the agreement in the presence of Mohammad Al Gergawi, MBRGI Secretary General.
Al Gergawi emphasised that the pledge reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who prioritises global humanitarian efforts to aid vulnerable communities. He stated that the collaboration aligns with MBRGI’s strategy to strengthen partnerships with UN organisations, addressing urgent needs and empowering millions.
Filippo Grandi expressed gratitude for MBRGI’s sustained support, noting its crucial role in enabling UNHCR to meet the growing challenges of displacement and essential aid demands.
Since 2021, MBRGI’s contributions have directly impacted over 700,000 displaced individuals across 13 countries, including Bangladesh, Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon. In 2023, MBRGI allocated AED 1.8B to assist over 111 million people globally through its initiatives spanning five pillars: humanitarian aid, healthcare, education, innovation, and community empowerment.
