10-Year Agreement Advances UAE Energy Transition
ADNOC Gas has entered a strategic partnership with Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), signing a $10 billion, 10-year flexible natural gas sales and purchase agreement. This landmark deal, celebrated during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025 at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), reinforces the UAE’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
Driving the UAE’s Decarbonisation Goals
EWEC, the sole procurer and supplier of water and electricity in Abu Dhabi, is leveraging this agreement to further decarbonise its operations. The natural gas supplied by ADNOC Gas will be delivered to plants across Abu Dhabi and the UAE. These gas-fired plants provide transitional capacity, enabling the integration of large-scale renewable and clean energy into the grid.
Fatema Al Nuaimi, Chief Executive Officer of ADNOC Gas, stated: “This strategic agreement with EWEC supports the UAE’s net-zero ambitions by ensuring a reliable and flexible supply of natural gas. Our collaboration aims to secure the nation’s self-sufficiency while driving sustainable economic growth and diversification.”
Enabling Energy Transition and Sustainability
Othman Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer of EWEC, highlighted the importance of the partnership: “This agreement ensures a stable supply of natural gas, essential for bridging the gap between traditional and renewable energy sources. It strengthens EWEC’s ability to deliver a secure, efficient, and decarbonised water and electricity system, aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.”
Natural gas plays a pivotal role in the UAE’s energy transition. Gas-fired plants’ ability to adapt output to real-time demand ensures flexibility during peak periods and complements renewable sources like solar energy. This collaboration underscores ADNOC Gas’s commitment to providing lower-carbon energy solutions that reduce customers’ carbon footprints.
