Operations at two industrial facilities in Abu Dhabi will be temporarily suspended to safeguard public health and the environment, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi announced on X on Friday. One of the facilities will also face a financial penalty due to non-compliance with regulations related to risks to human health and the environment.
Routine inspections and air quality monitoring reports from the authority revealed that pollutant levels in both facilities exceeded the permissible limits. As a result, the agency emphasised its commitment to continuous monitoring and inspections to ensure that environmental standards are met. It also called on all industrial facilities to comply with regulations to protect public health and the environment.
Air quality remains a top priority for Abu Dhabi, as it strives for sustainable development and seeks to minimise the negative impacts of pollution on people and nature. The emirate has implemented several strategic projects to improve air quality, in cooperation with government and private sectors. These efforts include analysing the sources of greenhouse gases, mercury, and industrial pollutants, and introducing measures for the clean use of fuel in transport, power generation, and water production, along with a transition to renewable energy sources.
Abu Dhabi has also rolled out initiatives to inspect vehicles periodically, improve traffic systems, implement smart management techniques, and better manage electricity and water demand. These development strategies aim to protect air quality while reducing the effects of pollution on both public health and the environment.
