With schools on summer break, children are likely spending more time online. The Abu Dhabi Police have issued a call to parents to enhance their supervision of children to protect them from cybercrime. The police emphasize that parental vigilance should be doubled during the holidays.
As part of their ‘Safe Summer’ campaign, the General Command of the Abu Dhabi Police underscores the necessity of educating children about the safe use of electronic devices and selecting age-appropriate games. Given the rising concerns about online bullying and abuse, the police advise parents to spend more quality time with their children to minimize screen time. Engaging in shared activities and hobbies can be beneficial, according to the police. They also warn that purchasing online games from unreliable sources can lead to unauthorized access to bank accounts, financial theft, and unexpected monthly deductions from the payment card used.
To aid in crime prevention, the police urge the public to contact them via the toll-free number 8002626 (AMAN2626), text messages (2828), email (aman@adpolice.gov.ae), or the Abu Dhabi Police General Command smart app. Aman is a security channel that collaborates with the community to ensure safety.
“The weather these days is really difficult. It doesn’t hurt to show kindness to those who are working hard in the heat,” added Alaa Abo Holy, reflecting on community efforts similar to those urged by the police in safeguarding children during the summer.
