Mobile operator O2 Slovakia, owned by e& PPF Telecom Group BV, a subsidiary of Emirates Telecommunications Group Company PJSC (e&), has signed a binding agreement with Liberty Global to acquire 100% of UPC Broadband Slovakia for €95 million ($111 million). Moreover, the transaction is structured on a cash-free, debt-free basis.
Additionally, the acquisition is expected to strengthen O2 Slovakia’s market position. As a result, it will also enhance the broader competitive positioning of the e& PPF Telecom group across the region.
Central and Eastern Europe expansion
The deal supports e&’s strategy to expand its footprint in Central and Eastern Europe. Furthermore, it reflects a focus on diversifying revenue streams linked to euro-denominated markets. Therefore, the transaction aligns with the group’s longer-term growth objectives beyond its core markets.
Fixed broadband scale and financing
UPC Broadband Slovakia operates a fixed broadband network serving nearly 170,000 customers. Moreover, the business generates approximately €47 million in annual revenue, adding scale to O2 Slovakia’s existing operations.
However, the acquisition remains subject to customary closing adjustments. Additionally, it will be financed through a combination of cash and debt at the e& PPF Telecom level. As a result, the group expects to complete the transaction following the satisfaction of standard conditions.
