The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation confirmed that January 1, 2026, will be an official holiday for all private-sector employees. The announcement aligns with the approved public holiday calendar for both government and private sectors. Since the first day of the new year falls on a Thursday, offices will resume work on Friday, January 2, 2026. This schedule provides employees with a clear start to the year while maintaining business continuity.
Federal Government Schedule Also Confirmed
Meanwhile, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources announced that New Year’s Day will likewise be a holiday for federal government staff. The authority stated that the holiday will be observed on Thursday, January 1, 2026. It also confirmed that Friday, January 2, 2026, will be a remote-work day for federal government employees, except those whose duties require on-site presence. Consequently, the arrangement supports operational needs while offering flexibility for most workers.
Unified Start to the Year
With both sectors receiving aligned guidance, the start of 2026 will follow a coordinated national schedule. As a result, employees can plan ahead with confidence, and organisations can prepare for a smooth transition into the new year. The unified approach reflects an effort to balance workplace efficiency with employee well-being.
