The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry held discussions with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Dubai to strengthen economic and trade cooperation and explore new investment partnerships.
Moreover, the talks focused on expanding collaboration through reciprocal participation in major economic events and specialized exhibitions, particularly in the jewelry sector. As a result, the initiative supported efforts to deepen UAE–Hong Kong business connectivity and unlock high-potential opportunities.
The meeting took place at the Chamber’s headquarters and brought together Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector, and Simon Chan, Director-General of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Dubai, alongside senior officials from both sides.
Focus on exhibitions and high-growth sectors
The discussions were built on recent engagements aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation. Additionally, both sides referenced the 2024 visit of a Hong Kong trade delegation led by the Secretary for Justice, followed by a business mission of 20 senior executives exploring partnership opportunities.
These engagements targeted sectors including advanced manufacturing, AI, construction robotics, energy, healthcare, real estate, financial services, and the luxury segment covering jewelry, diamonds, and watches.
Al Shamsi said economic relations between Sharjah and Hong Kong continued to gain momentum, supported by growing collaboration across multiple sectors. Furthermore, he highlighted international commercial arbitration cooperation through the 2024 partnership between the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Center, “Tahkeem,” and Hong Kong, focusing on alternative dispute resolution frameworks.
Trade promotion and potential office expansion
The Hong Kong delegation praised Sharjah’s economic growth and business-enabling infrastructure. Additionally, it reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation across key sectors.
The delegation also highlighted Sharjah’s strategic location, its competitive free zones, and its manufacturing and trade potential. Therefore, it described the partnership as supported by a strong pipeline of aligned opportunities.
Discussions also centered on the exhibitions sector as a strategic pillar. Moreover, both sides explored increasing Hong Kong’s participation in Sharjah events, such as the Middle East Watch and Jewelry Show and the Jewels of Emirates Show.
In parallel, the meeting reviewed ways to strengthen UAE representation in Hong Kong exhibitions, leveraging Hong Kong’s global standing in jewelry and gemstones. Additionally, both sides discussed expanding cooperation by establishing a Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office presence in Sharjah to attract Asian enterprises into the emirate.
