An upcoming report reveals that Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector contributes $53B to the Kingdom’s economy.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) confirms the significant role played by the aviation sector in driving economic growth in Saudi Arabia.
The civil aviation sector alone contributes $53B to the Kingdom’s economy, with $20.8B stemming from aviation activities and $32.2B from the tourism sector. This sector provides 241,000 jobs in civil aviation and approximately 717,000 jobs in tourism.
The achievements of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 are realised through the statistics presented in the inaugural edition of the report on the state of the aviation sector in Saudi Arabia.
The report will debut at the Future Aviation Forum 2024, hosted under the patronage of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Organised by the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the forum will run from May 20 to 22, 2024, under the theme “Enhancing the Level of Global Connectivity.”
Addressing significant transformations within the aviation sector in Saudi Arabia, the report highlights the Kingdom’s surpassing of global average growth rates in 2023. International seat capacity saw a 123% growth compared to pre-pandemic levels, exceeding global and regional recovery rates of 90% and 95%, respectively. Passenger numbers also surged by 26%, reaching a total of approximately 112 million passengers last year.
Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Board of Directors of GACA, Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, emphasised the aviation sector’s remarkable progress according to international benchmarks, aligning with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS). This progress presents unprecedented opportunities in the air transport sector.
