Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), announced the completion of 70% of the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project.
Al Tayer made the announcement during a site visit to monitor the project’s progress. The initiative aligns with directives to enhance Dubai’s road infrastructure in response to continued urban development and population growth, with the aim of improving traffic efficiency and citywide mobility.
He reviewed completed phases of the 4.6 km section between Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, including the development of the Umm Suqeim–Al Barsha South intersection near Kings’ School. Key works include an 800-metre, four-lane tunnel in both directions, along with a signal-controlled surface junction.
Al Tayer highlighted the strategic role of the project as a key east-west corridor integrating with Dubai’s north-south roadways. It strengthens links between four major arterial roads—Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road—while raising capacity to 16,000 vehicles per hour and cutting travel time by 61%, from 9.7 to 3.8 minutes.
