China is shifting away from traditionally energy-intensive industrial sectors towards green development across key sectors, aiming to reach its peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, as reported by China Central Television.
In June 2023, the Hunan Valin Xiangtan Iron and Steel power plant in Xiangtan County, situated in Hunan Province in central China, successfully integrated a 150-megawatt supercritical gas generator unit.
This unit can capture and repurpose surplus heat generated during the steel-making process, resulting in the daily production of over 3.7 million kilowatt-hours of electricity for the power plant, according to WAM.
Officials from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) indicated that a total of 78 steel enterprises completed the full-process ultra-low emission transformation of their production capacity in 2023, amounting to 390 million metric tons of crude steel.
MIIT: 5,095 Green Factories Boost Manufacturing by 17% in 2023
By the end of 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) had established a total of 5,095 green factories at the national level, contributing to over 17 percent of the total output value of the manufacturing industry.
Simultaneously, experts anticipate that the total output value of the environmental protection equipment manufacturing sector will surpass 970 billion yuan (approximately $134.75 billion).
Looking ahead, China plans to institute a green manufacturing and service system and foster 1,000 national-level green factories by the year’s end. The country plans to expedite the creation of a waste recycling system and encourage regions with favorable conditions to develop “zero-waste industrial parks” and “zero-waste enterprises.”
