Amazon Global Selling, in conjunction with India’s Ministry of Commerce and the Director General of Foreign Trade, is launching an initiative to increase exports from districts with significant export potential.
In a recent interview with Hindu Businessline, Bhupen Wakankar, the mastermind behind Amazon India’s Global Trade, underscores the company’s strategic partnerships with both governmental and private entities to drive this endeavour forward.
Wakankar discloses that Amazon has recently struck a partnership with the commerce ministry to concentrate on the top 75 districts in the country, which account for 80% of Amazon’s exports from India.
Amazon’s platform, which hosts over 125,000 exporters, has experienced rapid growth since its establishment in 2015, generating $8B (₹66,307 crore) in revenue and aiming for a target of $20B (₹1.65 lakh crore) by 2025.
This upward trajectory demonstrates a transition towards e-commerce exports, democratizing the landscape for smaller entities and directly linking them with more than 200 countries through Amazon’s international websites, according to Free Press Journal.
The collaboration seeks to raise awareness and provide education on e-commerce exports at the district level, leveraging the local connections and infrastructure of the DGFT. This initiative pledges to transform the operations of small to medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), offering them a streamlined, digital platform to access global markets with a diverse array of products.
