Al Hilal clinched the 2024 Saudi Super Cup by defeating rivals Al Ittihad at the Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The present leaders of the Saudi Pro League secured a comprehensive 4-1 win over last year’s national champions in the UAE, according to Arabian Business.
Al Ittihad showcased star signings Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante, while Al Hilal played without their highest-profile players – Neymar and Aleksander Mitrovic – yet still claimed the cup trophy ahead of what is likely to be a league title by the end of the season.
Al Hilal secures Saudi Super Cup
Brazilian forward Malcom netted two goals to lead Al-Hilal to a 4-1 victory over Al-Ittihad, securing the Saudi Super Cup title.
Under Jorge Jesus’ leadership, currently topping the Saudi league and still in contention in the King’s Cup and Asian Champions League, they aim for a quadruple of trophies this season.
Al Hilal, securing their fourth Saudi Super Cup title and extending their winning streak to 34 consecutive victories across all competitions, took an early lead five minutes into the game through Malcom, who finished with a close-range shot after a one-two with Saleh Al-Shehri.
Abderrazak Hamdallah equalised in the 21st minute, capitalising on the rebound after his penalty was saved by Al-Hilal’s Yassine Bounou.
Al Hilal regained the lead in the 44th minute when As Salem Al-Dawsari scored from the edge of the area. Malcom added another from close range after dribbling past Al Ittihad captain Ahmed Hegazy, and substitute Nasser Al-Dawsari completed the scoring.
The rivalry between Al Hilal and Al Ittihad will resume in the King’s Cup semi-final on April 30.
