The UAE Media Council announced that it facilitated the entry of nearly 500,000 titles into UAE markets in the first half of the year.
This significant increase reflects the steady growth of the UAE’s publishing sector, driven by streamlined government efforts and the Council’s advanced digital services.
During this period, the Council issued over 46,000 trading permits in multiple languages, granted 1,570 printing permits for local and foreign publications (a 16% increase from last year), and approved 18 film scripts, 32 theatrical scripts, and 12 TV series for local production.
Competitive Media
Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary General of the UAE Media Council, emphasised the Council’s role in fostering a competitive media industry and encouraging creativity across different formats while adhering to regulatory standards. He said this vision promotes responsible media content that supports knowledge sharing and positive social values.

He noted that the UAE’s media sector is expanding rapidly, fuelled by technological advancements, flexible media policies, and strong infrastructure. This supports the UAE’s position as a key player in the global media landscape.
The Council’s achievements reflect the UAE’s intellectual and cultural growth, highlighting its ability to organise major events and book fairs. The country’s world-class media infrastructure enhances its appeal for television and film production.
Media Permits
The Council approved 339 films for cinema screening, representing a 7% growth, with over 6 million viewers. It also approved 73 electronic games, ensuring age-appropriate classifications.
