Air India and Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) have reached an agreement, positioning Bengaluru, known as the IT capital of India, to emerge as a leading aviation hub in southern India.
The collaboration aims to enhance international connectivity, operational efficiency, and passenger experience at the city’s international airport over the next five years.
The agreement aims to improve air travel connectivity to and from Bengaluru in the coming years.
Air India, along with Tata Group airlines, AIX and Vistara, will strengthen their presence at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, as part of the agreement.
Additionally, Tata Group plans to establish dedicated domestic lounges for premium and frequent travellers of its airlines at the airport, according to Arabian Business.
As part of this initiative, Air India has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Government of Karnataka to establish comprehensive Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities at BLR airport.
Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of Air India, highlighted the importance of airline-airport synergy for enhanced customer experience and efficient operations at the airport.
Hari Marar, Managing Director and CEO of Bangalore International Airport Limited, emphasized BLR Airport’s commitment to strengthening its position as the primary international gateway in southern and central India.
Marar added that the alliance with Air India is a significant step towards capturing a significant share of long-haul routes from BLR Airport over the next five years.
