The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) is making its debut in the Guest of Honour program at the 65th Seoul International Book Fair. As part of its participation, SCTDA is presenting Sharjah’s cultural tourism sector and its unique attractions.
Visitors can have an immersive experience called ‘Sharjahverse,’ which allows them to virtually explore the iconic destinations in Sharjah through a metaverse city. This initiative allows visitors to tour and discover the emirate’s renowned cultural sites. In 2022, Sharjah witnessed a significant increase in hotel guest arrivals, with a 16% rise compared to the previous year, totalling 1.4 million guests, according to Gulf News.

SCTDA’s involvement in the event aims to showcase Sharjah as a hub for Arab and Islamic culture and literature. The authority is emphasizing the abundance of educational, historical, and heritage sites, museums, theaters, cultural hubs, scientific research and academic centers, as well as a diverse range of cultural events and festivals that take place in the emirate.
Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of SCTDA, commented on the participation, stating: “We commit ourselves to continuously developing the tourism industry by fostering strategic partnerships with both the government and private sectors. We leverage key platforms to showcase the unique and unparalleled features of tourism in the emirate of Sharjah, aiming to attract an increasing number of visitors to the emirate.”Our presence at the Seoul book fair serves as a continuation of this endeavour.”
