The United Arab Emirates has introduced temporary remote working measures for the private sector this week amid current developments in the Middle East, with operational adjustments aimed at ensuring business continuity and workforce safety.
Remote Work Recommended Through Tuesday
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) advised private sector companies to implement remote working arrangements wherever possible from Sunday, March 1 until Tuesday, March 3, 2026. The recommendation follows recent operational disruptions, including the temporary closure of UAE airspace over the weekend.
In addition, private establishments have been urged to take necessary measures to avoid the presence of workers in open areas, except for vital and essential roles that require physical attendance. As a result, many firms are expected to activate contingency plans and digital work infrastructure to maintain service delivery.
Operational Flexibility and Local Authority Oversight
The Ministry clarified that decisions regarding suspension of work remain under the jurisdiction of competent local authorities, depending on developments in the ongoing situation. Therefore, implementation may vary across emirates based on risk assessments and operational priorities.
In a statement on X, MoHRE explained: “The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation recommends that private sector establishments in the country take the necessary measures to avoid the presence of workers in open areas, with the exception of vital and essential roles that require physical attendance, and to implement remote working arrangements wherever possible.
“This measure will apply for a period of three days, from Sunday, March 1 until Tuesday March 3.
“The Ministry clarified that the decision to suspend work, or otherwise, is left to the competent local authorities, each within its respective jurisdiction, in accordance with developments in the ongoing situation.
“The Ministry also called on local private sector establishments to obtain information and follow updates from official sources at both the federal and local levels in the country.”
Market and Business Impact
The temporary shift to remote operations may moderate short-term productivity in sectors reliant on physical presence. However, widespread digital adoption across the UAE’s corporate sector is likely to cushion operational disruption. Moreover, companies with established hybrid work models may experience limited impact on core functions.
While essential services continue to operate, logistics, construction and outdoor-intensive industries could face temporary adjustments. Nevertheless, business continuity frameworks and digital infrastructure remain central to mitigating disruption amid current market tensions.
