Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), received Jürgen Barke, Minister of Economics, Innovation, Digitalisation and Energy and Deputy Prime Minister of the German state of Saarland, to explore cooperation in renewable and clean energy.
Senior DEWA officials attended the meeting, including Marwan bin Haidar and Dr. Yousef Al Akraf. Moreover, discussions focused on strengthening bilateral collaboration in innovation, digitalisation and sustainable energy systems.
Focus on Energy Transition and Innovation
Both sides underscored the shared commitment of the UAE and Germany to accelerating the global energy transition. In addition, they highlighted the importance of advancing clean technology innovation and reinforcing partnerships that support climate action and sustainable economic growth.
Al Tayer outlined DEWA’s flagship projects and strategic initiatives that position Dubai as a global hub for clean energy and green economy solutions. He emphasised large-scale renewable deployment, grid modernisation and research-driven innovation as central pillars of the utility’s strategy.
Solar Park and Hydrogen Development
Al Tayer highlighted the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, described as the largest single-site solar park globally under the independent power producer model. The project is expected to exceed 8,000 megawatts of production capacity by 2030. Therefore, it plays a central role in delivering the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which target 100 percent clean power capacity by mid-century.
He also referenced DEWA’s Green Hydrogen project at the solar park. Notably, it is the first facility in the Middle East and North Africa to produce hydrogen using solar energy. The initiative supports research and development, while exploring hydrogen applications in mobility, industry and energy storage. As a result, it contributes to the development of a sustainable hydrogen economy.
Al Tayer added that DEWA continues to deploy advanced technologies across renewable generation, smart grids, storage and digital transformation. Furthermore, he reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to expanding international cooperation and knowledge exchange to accelerate clean energy innovation.
Barke commended the UAE’s ambitious clean energy objectives and DEWA’s leadership in implementing utility-scale renewable projects.
