U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the fundamentals of the U.S. economy remain strong and that growth could exceed 3% or reach 3.5% this year. Moreover, he said the outlook reflects continued resilience despite recent policy uncertainty.
Speaking at a Wall Street Journal Opinion Live event in Washington, Bessent said U.S. tariffs imposed on other countries could return to previous levels by July. Additionally, he cited the February Supreme Court ruling that President Donald Trump exceeded his authority by imposing broad global tariffs under an emergency law.
