Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has unveiled a new strategic initiative aimed at fast-tracking high-impact development projects, unlocking fresh investment avenues, and backing innovative solutions that drive progress across the global water sector.
Known as the Abu Dhabi Global Water Platform, the initiative seeks to mobilise USD 2bln from domestic and international financial institutions. ADFD will commit an initial USD 1bln over a five-year period from 2026 to 2030, with the programme expected to benefit around 10 million people globally.
The platform is focused on enhancing water and food security in developing economies, expanding access to safe and clean water for communities, and promoting advanced technologies and innovative approaches to sustainable water resource management.
It will also work to build strategic partnerships that encourage collaboration and co-financing, support environmental sustainability, and improve overall quality of life, further underscoring the UAE’s role in global development leadership.
The initiative is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, which prioritises clean water and sanitation, ensuring equitable access to water resources while supporting inclusive and resilient development worldwide.
Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of ADFD, said the launch underscores the organisation’s commitment to the UAE leadership’s vision of addressing pressing global development challenges.
He noted that the initiative represents a core pillar of ADFD’s 2030 strategy, strengthening its mandate to deliver sustainable, high-impact outcomes. Through the platform, ADFD aims to deepen international engagement and secure critical resources for future generations.
Al Suwaidi also invited local and international stakeholders to partner with ADFD in advancing the goals of the Abu Dhabi Global Water Platform through joint financing, strategic alliances, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
