The UAE has announced a collaboration with Elon Musk on the Dubai Loop, an underground transport project revealed at the World Governments Summit.
Omar Sultan AlOlama, the UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, stated that the Dubai Loop would link the city’s busiest areas, providing seamless underground travel. He shared this update in a discussion with Musk, who joined via video link.
Musk described the system as a “wormhole,” enabling rapid movement across the city. His company, The Boring Co., previously built tunnels in California and Las Vegas, tested in 2018. These tunnels aim to offer high-speed transport, ease congestion, and serve as an alternative to traditional public transport.
Addressing safety concerns, Musk compared tunnels to submarines, explaining they remain stable even in earthquakes or storms. He also argued that underground transport is more efficient and secure than air-based options like flying taxis.
Musk spoke during the session “Boring Cities, AI and DOGE,” referring to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which he leads. Created by President Donald Trump in January, it seeks to reduce federal spending.
On US governance, Musk called for a “war on bureaucracy,” citing strong public support for government efficiency. He claimed this could lower inflation, cut deficits, and reduce US involvement in international affairs. He suggested America should prioritise domestic issues rather than global interventions.
Musk warned that excessive bureaucracy leads to overregulation, restricting freedoms. He stressed the need to streamline governance, arguing that without reform, increasing regulations could make many activities illegal.
