The UAE has officially introduced the Blue Visa, a long-term residency program aimed at honoring individuals dedicated to environmental sustainability. Unveiled at the World Governments Summit 2025, the initiative seeks to recognize and support those making a significant impact in ecological conservation.
In its initial phase, 20 pioneers in sustainability, including innovators and thought leaders, will receive the prestigious 10-year visa. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP), is overseeing the selection process.
This new visa builds upon the UAE’s existing long-term residency programs, such as the Golden and Green Visas. However, unlike those which focus on investors, entrepreneurs, and skilled professionals, the Blue Visa is specifically designed for individuals contributing to environmental protection on both a local and global scale.
Eligibility and Application Process
The Blue Visa is granted to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to sustainability. Eligible candidates include members of international organizations, NGOs, and major global companies focused on environmental initiatives. Additionally, renowned researchers, global award winners, and leading activists in sustainability efforts may also qualify.
To simplify the application process, the UAE has launched an electronic approval system. Initially, government agencies in the sustainability sector will nominate candidates, ensuring that only those with a proven impact are considered. Applicants must follow the approved procedures available on the ICP’s official website.
Beyond government nominations, sustainability advocates and experts can also apply directly through the ICP’s online portal or mobile application. The UAE has ensured 24/7 accessibility to the service, allowing applicants a smooth and efficient process for securing long-term residency.
UAE’s Commitment to Sustainability
The introduction of the Blue Visa aligns with the UAE’s long-term environmental goals. By offering extended residency to sustainability leaders, the country aims to attract and retain top talent in the field. This move further reinforces the UAE’s dedication to global sustainability efforts, complementing its existing green policies and initiatives.
As the first phase unfolds, more environmental advocates and experts are expected to be added to the program. The UAE continues to position itself as a leader in environmental action, ensuring that those who contribute to a greener future receive the recognition and support they deserve.
