Etihad Rail has unveiled the full blueprint of the UAE’s national passenger rail network, marking a significant milestone in the country’s transport and infrastructure journey.
The project will introduce the UAE’s first fully integrated passenger railway system, connecting 11 cities and regions through a network of strategically positioned stations across the country.
Designed to enhance connectivity between the Emirates, the network aims to provide safe, reliable and efficient mobility for citizens, residents and visitors alike.
In early 2025, Etihad Rail announced the first four passenger stations located in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah. The company has now confirmed additional stations in Al Sila’, Al Dhannah, Al Mirfa, Madinat Zayed, Mezaira’a, Al Faya and Al Dhaid, which will be brought online in phases.
Speaking on the upcoming launch, Etihad Rail highlighted that preparations for passenger services in 2026 align with the leadership’s vision of developing an integrated transport ecosystem that strengthens the UAE’s economic and social foundations.
The passenger rail network is expected to become a core pillar of the national transport system, supporting long-term development while reinforcing connectivity across all Emirates.
The initiative also builds on Etihad Rail’s successful freight operations, which have been running since 2023, leveraging advanced technology and modern rolling stock to ensure high standards of safety, reliability and service quality.
Trains will reflect a distinct Emirati identity, reinforcing national cohesion while serving as a long-term investment in community wellbeing and improved quality of life.
Passengers can expect a modern and comfortable travel experience, featuring ergonomic seating, contemporary interiors, full Wi-Fi coverage and individual power outlets at every seat. Services will operate on a precise schedule, offering a dependable alternative to road travel and helping reduce intercity congestion.
Etihad Rail confirmed that passenger services are scheduled to commence in 2026, initially linking 11 key locations including Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi, Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, University City in Sharjah and the Al Hilal area in Fujairah.
Each train has been designed to accommodate up to 400 passengers, providing a congestion-free, efficient and reliable mode of transport supported by advanced safety and operational systems.
The scale of the project reflects three years of extensive planning, design and execution involving thousands of specialists, and is expected to enhance national mobility, boost domestic tourism, support sustainability objectives and further improve accessibility across the UAE.
