The UAE aviation authority introduced a new protocol aimed at combating the spread of infectious diseases during air travel. This protocol stresses the importance of prompt reporting by operators’ stations and collaboration with local health authorities.
The innovative approach of these new measures in mitigating the significant public health risks associated with air travel has been widely praised by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and its member states.
The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) unveiled the protocol during the Collaborative Arrangement for the Prevention and Management of Public Health Events in Civil Aviation (CAPSCA) joint meeting held in Germany.
Saif Mohamed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of GCAA, highlighted the significance of the protocol, reaffirming the authority’s commitment to global aviation safety and public health resilience through collaborative efforts with international partners.
Aqeel Al Zarouni, Assistant Director-General of the Aviation Safety Affairs Sector, hailed the protocol as a significant milestone in the fight against infectious diseases. It aims to bolster airport capacities and promote closer cooperation between the public health and civil aviation sectors.
