As the UAE prepares for challenging weather conditions starting Wednesday, an expert assures that it won’t be as severe as the rainfall experienced on April 16.
Dr Ahmed Habib, a weather specialist at the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), predicts moderate to heavy rainfall in scattered areas in the coming days, accompanied by lightning, thunder, and a possibility of hail.
While hail was observed in Al Shoaib area on Sunday, Dr Habib warns of potential hail in eastern areas extending to internal and western regions.
He highlights May 2-3 as the critical period, clarifying that the upcoming weather situation will be different from the previous one.
The inclement weather is forecasted to begin from the west by Wednesday night, covering most parts of the country by Thursday, especially affecting western, coastal, and some eastern regions, with a significant drop in temperatures.
Dr Habib explains that an extension of low pressure from the East will bring increased humidity to eastern areas until Wednesday, leading to convective cloud formation primarily during the daytime, gradually moving inland towards Dubai and Sharjah.
He anticipates a gradual improvement in weather conditions over Friday-Saturday as the low pressure moves southwards, resulting in decreasing cloud cover and light to moderate rain.
Dr Habib attributes the weather to both local and external factors, including an extension of surface low pressure from the Red Sea and humid southeasterly winds.
Regarding the record-breaking rainfall on April 16, Dr Habib mentions ongoing research to understand if it was influenced by the climate crisis, emphasizing the need for thorough examination of various factors over the past few decades.
