The UAE has officially announced the pricing structure for electric vehicle (EV) charging services, set to begin in January 2025. After months of complimentary operations at government-owned charging stations, UAEV, the country’s first government-run EV charging network, will adopt standardized tariffs introduced by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.
This marks a pivotal step toward ensuring sustainability, scalability, and equitable access to the growing EV charging infrastructure across the Emirates.
Transparent EV Charging Tariffs
Starting January 2025, EV owners will be charged:
- AED 1.2/kWh + VAT for DC chargers
- AED 0.70/kWh + VAT for AC chargers
These tariffs, designed for transparency and fairness, will help sustain the operational excellence of UAEV’s expanding network while supporting the country’s broader vision for green mobility and sustainability.
Innovative Tools to Enhance User Experience
To provide a seamless experience for EV drivers, UAEV is rolling out a dedicated mobile app that offers a range of features:
- Station Locator: Easily find nearby charging stations.
- Real-Time Updates: Access live status information on station availability.
- Convenient Payment Options: Simplify transactions through the app.
Additionally, UAEV is introducing a 24/7 call centre to deliver instant support, ensuring reliable assistance for users navigating the charging network.
Commitment to Sustainable Transportation
Highlighting the initiative’s significance, Eng. Sharif al Olama, Chairman of UAEV, stated:
“This marks a transformative step in the UAE’s journey towards sustainable transportation. The implementation of standardised charging tariffs and the launch of innovative solutions like the UAEV app and 24/7 support reflect our ongoing commitment to enhancing the EV driver experience. By expanding our network and aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy, we are driving a cleaner, greener future for all.”
Strategic Expansion of UAEV’s Network
By 2030, UAEV plans to deploy over 1,000 charging stations strategically located in urban hubs, highways, and transit points across all Emirates. This strategic placement ensures both intra-city and inter-city EV users benefit from accessible, high-speed charging solutions.
Aligned with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy, the initiative focuses on:
- Reducing carbon emissions through green mobility.
- Providing real-time uptime monitoring for chargers.
- Promoting reliable and sustainable transport solutions.
Reinforcing Green Mobility Leadership
UAEV continues to play a crucial role in shaping the nation’s sustainable future. Through innovation, accessibility, and strategic partnerships, it underscores the UAE’s dedication to building a cleaner and greener transportation ecosystem.
