The United Arab Emirates, through the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), has initialled a Record of Discussions with the Republic of South Africa.
This Record comprises a protocol aimed at revising specific clauses within the existing Bilateral Air Services Agreement between the two nations. It also accords expanded operating rights to the national carriers of both countries, facilitating improved air connectivity and deeper bilateral engagement.
This milestone reflects the UAE’s ongoing dedication to strengthening its international air transport partnerships and enhancing global connectivity, reinforcing its status as a leading player in the global aviation arena.
The protocol introduces several updates to the agreement, including the incorporation of a new article focused on aviation security, intended to raise standards and foster greater coordination between both parties.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, said that the UAE actively deepens its relations with international counterparts and eagerly explores new avenues of cooperation with the Republic of South Africa to serve mutual interests and support the sector’s sustainable development.
“We reiterate that the UAE’s pursuit of a world-class air transport system remains a strategic priority for the GCAA, realised through strong partnerships at both the domestic and global levels, to secure the nation’s place as a major aviation hub.”
These revisions form part of broader initiatives to reinforce bilateral relations between the UAE and South Africa, and to enhance cooperation in civil aviation, ultimately benefiting both nations and supporting the growth of air traffic between them.
