Japanese drone technology leader Terra Drone Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Aramco to jointly explore and develop advanced drone, robotics, and artificial intelligence solutions tailored for Saudi Arabia’s oil and gas industry.
Strategic Partnership to Boost Local Innovation and Capability
The agreement, signed by Toru Tokushige, Founder and CEO of Terra Drone, and Khalid Y. Alqahtani, Aramco’s Senior Vice President of Engineering Services, marks a significant step toward enhancing safety, operational efficiency, and technology localisation within the Kingdom.
Under the MOU, the two parties will collaborate across a range of strategic initiatives. These include joint research and development programs, technology testing, training, and the deployment of drone-based services within Saudi Arabia’s energy sector.
Tokushige noted, “This MOU is a reflection of our unwavering commitment to innovation and localisation, in partnership with Aramco.” He added that Terra Drone Arabia, the company’s local subsidiary, would play a pivotal role in delivering high-performance drone solutions while contributing to the development of the domestic workforce and capabilities.
Terra Drone Arabia to Lead Localised Drone Development
Following a strategic investment from Wa’ed Ventures in 2023, Terra Drone has expanded significantly in the Kingdom, launching Terra Drone Arabia. The subsidiary focuses on three long-term goals: the localisation of drone services, the development of homegrown R&D and manufacturing capabilities, and the creation of quality employment opportunities for Saudi nationals.
The collaboration with Aramco is expected to be a foundational pillar for a long-term partnership that not only drives technological advancement but also aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 goals.
Also, with Terra Drone recently ranked the world’s No.1 drone service provider for 2024, the company aims to leverage its global expertise to build a robust, innovation-driven ecosystem in Saudi Arabia’s vital oil and gas industry.
