Saudi Arabia is set to significantly boost the utilization of renewable energy, reduce carbon emissions, and undertake extensive tree planting in the upcoming years.
Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen Alfadley, the Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, participated in the third edition of the Saudi Green Initiative Forum, which coincided with COP28 in Dubai.
Alfadley indicated that the Kingdom is making steady progress towards fulfilling the targets of the Saudi Green Initiative, aiming to plant approximately 600 million trees by 2030 and 10 billion trees across the Kingdom in the coming decades.

He clarified that the third edition of the Saudi Green Initiative Forum is intended to build on the accomplishments of past projects and initiatives initiated since the inaugural edition in Riyadh.
The KSA Green Initiative comprises 80 initiatives, and since its adoption, 43 of these initiatives have been launched to achieve its primary objectives.
Notably, 43.9 million trees have been planted across the Kingdom, and 940,000 hectares of degraded lands have been rehabilitated, according to Arabian Business.
Moreover, there has been a remarkable 300 percent increase in production capacity for reducing carbon emissions, with the production capacity of renewable energy projects surpassing 8 gigawatts.
He concluded that the Kingdom’s afforestation strategy is rooted in the principle of sustainability.The strategy emphasizes the use of renewable water sources.
Additionally, the Kingdom aims to leverage cutting-edge technologies to enhance these initiatives.
