Motorists in Dubai will now face a maximum fine of Dh10,000 per vehicle annually under the updated terms and conditions of the city’s toll gate operator, Salik.
According to the new regulations, the total fines imposed per vehicle for violations of the Salik tolling system will not exceed Dh10,000 within any given calendar year, spanning from January 1 to December 31. Drivers can only contest a toll violation if it has been recorded in their traffic file within the past 13 months from the date the violation was issued. Additionally, no balance or partial balance from a Salik account will be refunded or transferred to another account under the new terms.
This update coincides with Salik’s expansion of services in Dubai. From July 1, Salik gates were installed at the Dubai Mall under a five-year agreement. Parking rates at the mall start from Dh20 per hour and can go up to Dh1,000 for 24-hour parking.
Salik is tasked with designing, financing, developing, installing, and managing the parking payment collection system, while the Dubai Mall provides the necessary local infrastructure, office space, and car park maintenance. The toll operator has a high penetration rate, with over 4.1 million active vehicles registered.
Customers are advised to report defective tags within 90 days of identifying the issue, and the tag will be replaced without additional charges upon verification of the defect.
If a vehicle or license plate is lost or stolen, Salik customers must immediately notify the company through authorized communication channels to deactivate the associated Salik Tag.
“Until the time Salik/Salik Operator receives notification from the user regarding the loss or theft of the user’s plate or vehicle, Salik/Salik Operator shall be entitled to continue to deduct from the user’s Salik account any tolls and payments, including any fines or penalties incurred through use of user’s plate or vehicle,” the Dubai-listed company stated.
Furthermore, Salik accounts will become inactive if no tolls, payments, or balance recharges are posted for a period of five years, resulting in the forfeiture of any remaining balance.
The updated terms and conditions were made public approximately a month ago.
