Healthcare company PureHealth, based in the UAE, has agreed to acquire Circle Health Group, the largest privately owned hospital operator in the UK. The transaction has a value of $1.2 billion (equivalent to AED 4.41 billion).
This acquisition represents PureHealth’s entry into the UK market and is a component of their worldwide expansion strategy, encompassing acquisitions in the US and penetration into other international markets.
The agreement grants the healthcare company full ownership of Circle Health Group’s collection of specialties, such as orthopaedics, oncology, cardiothoracic surgery, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, and general surgery, according to Gulf Business.
“This acquisition marks an important milestone in our journey towards creating a global healthcare network which revolutionises patient care. Our mission at PureHealth is to drive scientific innovation to unlock longevity and greater quality of life for humankind,” said Farhan Malik, managing director and Group CEO of PureHealth.
Additionally, this deal provides the Abu Dhabi-centered healthcare services provider with entry to recently established cutting-edge hospitals by Circle Health Group. Among these is the UK’s inaugural purpose-built, advanced rehabilitation hospital.
The healthcare group headquartered in Abu Dhabi aims to invest in scientific advancements and healthcare infrastructure across all its holdings. This endeavor aims to provide patients with access to top-notch medical treatment adhering to the highest global quality benchmarks.
“Patients in the UAE and the UK will benefit from the acquisition, both through the diversity of choice in healthcare provision, an expanded network of medical professionals and expertise combined with knowledge sharing that will be developed,” the healthcare firm said in a statement.
Global Collaborations and Partnerships
Circle Health Group becomes a new addition to the expanding roster of healthcare providers under PureHealth’s umbrella. This roster includes entities like Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), The National Health Insurance Company (Daman), Tamouh Healthcare, Yas Clinic Group, and Abu Dhabi Stem Cell Center.
In May, the group finalized an equity investment exceeding AED 1.8B in the US healthcare provider Ardent Health Services. This transaction grants the healthcare company the rights of a board observer, although not a position on the board of directors.
“PureHealth, as the region’s largest healthcare group, is well-positioned to make significant contributions to the improvement of healthcare systems and access to world-class medical services in the UAE and beyond,” Malik said.
Established in 2004, Circle Health Group comprises over 8,200 staff members and 6,500 experts in more than 60 specialties across a network of over 50 hospitals in the UK. With a yearly footfall exceeding two million and generating revenue of over AED 47.8B, the group has a substantial presence.
Building on its global connections and esteemed international reputation, the group aims to enhance its achievements by acquiring Circle Health Group. Additionally, this comprehensive healthcare platform established a significant collaboration with Sheba Medical Center in June.
Both entities have committed to close cooperation on collaborative clinical research projects, the advancement of cutting-edge healthcare technology, expansion of genetic research initiatives, and the promotion of health tourism in their respective countries.
This partnership with Sheba Medical will also prioritize education and training efforts.
