Dubai-based Peec Mobility introduces budget-friendly EVs from Dh70,000 using repurposed petrol cars, offering a 50% cheaper alternative to new electric vehicles.
In a major step towards affordable sustainable transportation, Peec Mobility, a Dubai-based startup, has launched the ReCar.03, a budget-friendly electric vehicle (EV) made from repurposed petrol cars. With a starting price of Dh70,000, the repurposed vehicles are also set to hit the market by the second quarter of 2025. The ReCar.03, designed and engineered by Peec Mobility, is showcased at the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress and Exhibition at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
According to Peec Mobility’s founder, UAE-born Zach Faizal, the company’s mission is to offer a cost-efficient and eco-friendly alternative to newly manufactured EVs, which typically start at over Dh100,000. “We’ve been developing our latest iteration of the ReCar for some time. We’re close to production with orders due to be delivered in Q2 2025, so this is a big step in the future of mobility as it allows us to share the ReCar with valuable customers,” said Faizal.
Also, the ReCar concept involves repurposing existing internal combustion engine vehicles, such as the petrol-powered Toyota Camry, by retaining their body and chassis and converting them into fully functional electric vehicles.
This process reduces manufacturing costs by 30% and shortens production time by 80%. The battery-powered ReCar can run up to 300 kilometers on a full charge, providing drivers with a sustainable, long-range solution.
In addition to being cost-effective, the ReCar is designed with environmental responsibility in mind, the vehicle’s interior is made from recyclable materials, and the car is equipped with an updated human-machine interface (HMI) system. Most importantly, it offers drivers a “new car” experience without contributing to harmful carbon emissions.
Peec Mobility is also focused on supporting the UAE’s Net Zero goals. “Our goal is to work with the government to implement this conversion at scale and create a replicable model from the UAE to the world,” said Faizal. “By repurposing just 5% of existing vehicles annually, we can reduce transportation sector emissions by 23% by 2030.”
Also as Dubai aims for 50% of vehicles to be electric by 2050, Peec Mobility is positioning itself as a key player in this transition, offering a cheaper, faster, and greener solution to help achieve that goal.
