Sheikh Mohammed Launches National University of Dubai with Dh4.5 Billion Investment
Dubai has announced the launch of the National University of Dubai, a major new educational institution aimed at preparing students for future technologies and emerging fields. The university was launched on Monday with an initial investment of Dh4.5 billion, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to advancing education and innovation.
The goal of the new university is ambitious: to be ranked among the top 50 young universities in the world within the next decade. It will offer academic programmes designed to equip students with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, shared the news in a social media post. He emphasized the university’s role in shaping the future of education in the UAE, writing, “Today, we are launching a new project to develop education in our country. Its goal is to be among the top 50 young universities over the next decade.”
The university will focus on a range of international programmes, but with a strong Emirati identity, aiming to support the UAE’s developmental goals while ensuring that its graduates are prepared to compete globally.
Sheikh Mohammed added, “The world is changing rapidly, and the real challenge is to create generations capable of absorbing these changes and harnessing them to build a better future for our nation.”
The project is part of the larger Dubai Social Agenda 33, a ten-year plan aimed at enhancing the lives of Emirati families. Education plays a central role in this plan, which emphasizes the importance of empowering the next generation with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the future.
Agenda 33 addresses many areas, including housing, healthcare, social cohesion, and quality of life, all while focusing on preserving Emirati identity and values. The National University of Dubai is seen as a key step in this broader vision. By providing affordable, high-quality education, the UAE aims to ensure that more citizens can access opportunities that will help them contribute to the country’s development.
With its forward-looking programmes and commitment to academic innovation, the National University of Dubai will serve as a foundation for the UAE’s efforts to build a knowledge-based economy, positioning the country as a leader in education and research on the global stage.
