The Dubai Municipality created the “3D Infrastructure and Service Lines Map” project, with the goal of portraying the Dubai government as a completely smart model that offers best-in-class cutting-edge services in accordance with different international and innovative standards across all sectors.
The project, according to Dawoud Al Hajri, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, will conduct a comprehensive study on selecting advanced technologies to build a 3D model and an inclusive map of geospatial data on infrastructure and service lines below the ground, integrating all the precise details within a single source of information.
“The study will further explore recent technological innovations in preparing underground infrastructure maps, including the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology, and choose the best to guarantee sustainable viability of data collection all over Dubai that keeps up with the latest information,” he added., according to the Zawya.
According to Mariam Al Muhairi, Acting CEO of the Buildings Regulation and Permits Agency, this project will be carried out in two phases, with the first involving an analysis of available technology around the world to ensure its quality, efficacy, and availability to provide it to the specialised team and train them on how to use it. “Moreover, the second phase involves examining all infrastructure service lines through the technology to update all the data.”
Several modern technologies will be employed to offer a 3D scan of subsurface utility lines, ensuring the supply of all important data as well as the correctness of the geospatial database. The data comprises information on all services, such as the irrigation, sewage, and rainfall lines managed by Dubai Municipality, as well as road lighting lines and electricity and water lines data maintained by the Roads and Transport Authority.
These subterranean service lines will be scanned, analysed, and provided to data-owning organisations in order to be updated. These data are critical to meeting the Municipality’s digital twinning goals, which include easing and expediting processes that employ 3D infrastructure data, such as NOCs and infrastructure projects for important buildings.
