Dubai Airports has announced flight delays and diversions as heavy rain and unstable weather disrupt travel plans in the city.
Emergency services and municipalities across the UAE swiftly responded to safeguard citizens on roads throughout the country and beyond, issuing weather warnings as storms approached.
During the downpour, Dubai Airports confirmed the redirection of several incoming flights to nearby airports, according to Arabian Business.
Flights from destinations such as Pakistan, Zurich, Istanbul, Milan, Frankfurt, and Tokyo scheduled to land at DXB were rerouted to DWC, Doha International Airport, Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi, and Muscat International Airport, among others.
For passengers on outgoing flights, Dubai Airports recommended checking flight status before departure and arriving at airports early due to traffic congestion and flooding near DXB. The statement also advised passengers to utilise Metro services for smoother transit.
The airport management company stated, ‘Dubai Airports can confirm that normal operations at Dubai International have been affected due to adverse weather conditions since the early hours of Saturday, March 9. As a result, 13 inbound flights have been redirected to nearby airports. We are actively collaborating with our service partners and airlines to minimise any inconvenience experienced by our valued guests. We urge guests flying out of DXB to check their flight status and plan accordingly. Due to congestion and water accumulating on the roads, we recommend allowing extra time to travel to the airport. Guests are encouraged to use the Metro for smoother transit.’
