Dubai’s fleet of autonomous taxis has now received official insurance coverage in a regional first, after Dubai Insurance was appointed to provide protection for the self-driving vehicles operated by Dubai Taxi Company. The development marks a significant step in regulating autonomous transport services across the Middle East.
The announcement follows Dubai’s rollout of driverless taxis as part of its wider smart mobility agenda, highlighting the emirate’s continued push towards advanced transport technologies and innovation-led urban development.
Dubai’s broader transportation strategy focuses on integrating artificial intelligence and smart technologies into everyday mobility solutions. The introduction of autonomous taxis represents another milestone in the city’s efforts to build a future-focused and digitally connected transport ecosystem.
Abdellatif Abuqurah, CEO of Dubai Insurance, said the collaboration reflects the evolving nature of both the insurance and mobility sectors. He added that the initiative underlines the importance of adapting insurance models to support emerging transportation technologies and autonomous systems.
