Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a Dh6 billion agreement with Dubai Holding to enhance traffic flow and accessibility across several key locations. The project aims to develop new roads, bridges, and pedestrian walkways to ease congestion and improve connectivity.
The upgrades will benefit five major Dubai Holding developments: Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Production City, Business Bay, Palm Jumeirah, and International City. Additionally, infrastructure improvements will extend to multiple communities, including Dubai Islands, Jumeirah Village Triangle, Palm Gateway, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Park, Arjan, Majan, Liwan (Phase 1), Nad Al Hamar, Villanova, and Serena.
Images released by Dubai Media Office highlight key enhancements such as additional pedestrian bridges on the trunk of Palm Jumeirah, new roads and bridges in Business Bay, and expanded road networks in International City 2. Jumeirah Village Circle will also see the addition of underpasses and multi-level bridges to improve traffic movement.
Broader Infrastructure Development Plans
The Dh6 billion initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance Dubai’s infrastructure amid rapid population growth. The Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040 projects the city’s population to rise from 3.8 million to 5.8 million by 2040, necessitating significant transportation improvements.
In parallel, Dubai’s Railbus project, announced at the World Governments Summit, is undergoing technical studies expected to take two years. This network will complement existing metro and tram services, further strengthening public transport connectivity.
Other major road developments include the Dh696 million upgrade of Dubai’s Trade Centre Roundabout. This project will transform the intersection by adding five bridges spanning a total of 5,000 meters. Additionally, a five-year infrastructure plan approved by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid aims to construct 634km of new roads across 12 residential, commercial, and industrial areas at a cost of Dh3.7 billion.
Completion Timeline and Expected Impact
Dubai’s new traffic improvement plan is set to be completed by the second quarter of 2026. The expanded road network will enhance mobility and reduce travel times by up to 40%, according to the RTA. With continuous investments in infrastructure, Dubai aims to support its growing population and solidify its position as a global urban hub.
