dnata has announced a $17 million investment to build an advanced inflight catering facility at Western Sydney International (WSI) Airport’s Cargo Precinct. The new facility, which is currently under construction, is expected to be completed by late 2026. Once operational, it will have the capacity to produce three million high-quality meals annually, further strengthening WSI’s position as a growing international aviation hub.
Supporting Job Creation and Airport Expansion
Mark Stubbings, the Chief Commercial Officer at dnata Catering & Retail Australia, highlighted the importance of this investment for the Australian aviation industry. He stated that the highly trained team, combined with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, would allow dnata to deliver world-class services. This, in turn, will help establish WSI as a premier international airport.
The investment will also create over 200 direct jobs over the next 10 years, with recruitment set to begin in 2026. The roles will cover a variety of functions, including chefs, drivers, and catering attendants. This job creation is a positive development for the local economy, especially as the airport prepares for its grand opening in 2026.
WSI CEO Simon Hickey expressed that dnata’s commitment demonstrates the airport’s rapid progress. He explained that the company’s investment will help attract top-tier airlines and elevate the airport’s global offering when it opens.
