The UAE is expected to further strengthen its position as the rapidly emerging global hub for AI (artificial intelligence) research and development, with the UAE-based AI infrastructure and services firm Core42 preparing to unveil its first consumer-focused product.
The company, a subsidiary of the globally renowned AI entity G42, is keeping the details of the new product under wraps, but it is widely anticipated to represent a significant milestone in the ongoing generative AI revolution.
Currently, generative AI is utilised in various industries within the UAE and worldwide
“In addition to our ongoing initiatives, we will soon be launching our first consumer-focused product,” Talal Al Kaissi, EVP – Chief Partnerships, Strategy & Government Affairs Officer at Core42, revealed to Arabian Business in an exclusive interview.
However, “stay tuned” was all he was willing to say regarding the new company initiative.
The company’s upcoming consumer-focused product launch coincides with its intense efforts to enhance its recently launched JAIS Chat – the mobile app version of its JAIS30, touted as the world’s most advanced Arabic Large Language Model (LLM) – with new features such as document processing, customisable user settings, and voice conversation capabilities.
JAIS Chat, a bilingual English and Arabic chatbot, comprehends multiple Arabic dialects and cultural nuances, and is specifically designed to empower Arabic speakers worldwide, facilitating translation and cross-language communication on a large scale powered by AI.
“JAIS Chat for mobile adds convenience, accessibility, and efficiency to users’ daily lives, offering AI-enabled assistance on the go,” Al Kaissi stated.
The product is based on JAIS 30B, which has been trained on an extensive dataset containing 1.63 trillion tokens, with 475 billion Arabic tokens, and the rest being English and Code.
Significant growth in generative AI adoption anticipated over the next 5 years
Al Kaissi stated that Core42 anticipates significant growth in generative AI adoption over the next five years, with a focus on tailored solutions that address specific regional needs and industry requirements.
“This growth will be supported by the development of a robust AI talent pool, collaborative research and development initiatives, and increased investment in, and deployment of, AI infrastructure,” he said.
The senior Core42 executive praised the UAE’s prominent leadership in AI for attracting substantial interest from international players eager to collaborate and advance the AI market. “Our strategic partnerships with global AI and technology leaders such as Microsoft, OpenAI, Cerebras, Qualcomm, and NVIDIA, among others, underscore our role as a collaborative hub in the region,” he said.
Al Kaissi noted that the growing synergy between international and regional players will stimulate growth and foster innovation within the local AI sector.
Al Kaissi also forecasted that the UAE is set to witness a surge in AI startups specialising in generative AI, driven by favourable government policies and a supportive funding environment.
“This will further solidify the country’s position as a centre of gravity for AI-driven transformation,” he said.
The UAE has been experiencing an influx of both talent and companies specialising in advanced AI, including generative AI, due to numerous government initiatives such as the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031, and the allocation of resources to support AI development across diverse sectors.
“Additionally, we anticipate the emergence of new regional ventures leveraging the supportive ecosystem and conducive regulatory environment in the UAE to drive innovation and address specific market needs,” the Core42 senior executive said.
Core42 launches a range of new initiatives across sectors
Al Kaissi stated that the company has recently launched a new set of initiatives, utilising AI for positive impact, to empower industries and verticals with essential AI tools to enhance their capabilities, offerings, and performance.
JAIS 30B recently collaborated with AlTibbi, a MENA-based digital health platform, to deliver advanced telemedicine solutions tailored for the Arab region.
Core42 also recently launched Board Navigator, an AI board observer designed to uphold best practices in the boardroom, which has already been adopted by several institutions.
Compass API, another Core42 product, serves as an intelligent companion that leverages a variety of LLMs (Large Language Models) to provide optimal feedback on daily tasks, among other functionalities.
Core42, which has been providing the UAE central bank with the necessary infrastructure to enable critical services such as the National Payment System and Central Bank Digital Currency programme, recently signed a new agreement with the bank for the implementation of its ‘Open Finance Programme’.
“These initiatives exemplify our commitment to harnessing AI for societal betterment and the enabling role Core42 plays in enterprise AI adoption and deployment,” he said.
Al Kaissi stated that their latest LLM product JAIS 30B, which can deliver responses that are 160 percent more detailed in Arabic and 233 percent in English, showcases substantial advancements in summarisation and formatting capabilities.
“Its performance is now on par with leading monolingual English models and surpasses many open-source alternatives across various evaluation metrics,” he said, adding that JAIS 30B’s remarkable Arabic capabilities have already seen successful implementation across diverse industries, including telecommunications, energy, education, financial services, government services, healthcare, and marketing communications.
“As interest in generative AI and Large Language Models continues to grow, we anticipate JAIS to play a transformative role in reshaping the way over 400 million Arabic speakers globally can leverage this technology,” the Core42 senior executive said.
