The Abu Dhabi Petroleum Products Trading Regulatory Committee (TRC) convened its first meeting of 2025 under the chairmanship of Dr. Saif Saeed Al Qubaisi, Acting Director-General of Regulatory Affairs at the Department of Energy. The session brought together representatives from 21 federal and local government authorities.
Discussions centred on ongoing initiatives aimed at streamlining petroleum product trading across the emirate, supported by a series of presentations highlighting key developments.
Members agreed to implement and monitor several recommendations and outcomes in line with current legislation, including Federal Law No. (14) of 2017, Cabinet Resolution No. (35) of 2019, and Abu Dhabi Law No. (5) of 2023.
ADNOC Distribution opened the meeting with an overview of the positive impact of enforcing petroleum trading regulations, particularly in curbing the grey market. The Department of Energy and TRC’s role in enhancing regulatory oversight was also highlighted.
The Committee called for increased efforts to promote diesel procurement from certified national suppliers and urged all users—public and private—to partner with licensed firms to ensure safety compliance and product quality.
ADNOC Distribution also introduced a strategy to promote advanced gas cylinders, outlining their safety and performance advantages over traditional steel models, especially for sites without centralised LPG systems.
Abu Dhabi Ports presented a proposal to build gas cylinder storage facilities in ICAD 2, ensuring environmental and safety compliance.
The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure shared updates on frameworks enabling petroleum product imports, currently covering 98 materials and expected to grow to 211 by year-end.
The Department of Energy’s team shared updates on digital coordination across entities to expedite licensing via its Unified Platform.
Finally, working group updates were delivered, with the Committee endorsing awareness and inspection campaigns to tackle violations and enforce compliance with safety standards.
